Overview:
For a long period of time, owners of most projects used to focus on the initial cost of any facility rather than the life-cycle costing. They considered the short-term cost saving of vital importance. Recently, there is an elaborated attention to decreasing operation & maintenance cost that constitute a considerable portion of the facility life-cycle cost. The aim of this webinar is to figure out challenges facing Facility Management (FM) Industry in the Middle East and discuss opportunities and proposed mitigation actions to overcome these challenges.

One of the major challenges is the lack of awareness of FM importance and that most of stakeholders in many projects are not matured enough towards the application of FM in their projects. Another challenge is the late involvement of FM in different project phases: concept, design, construction and commissioning leading to miss-coordination and lack of integration between different disciplines and missing the opportunity of potential cost saving because of gained lesson-learned by the FM team.

The need of standard legislative and regulating laws is very crucial as this will encourage the application of the different business models achieving goals of key stakeholders and preventing the vagueness of service cost breakdown. Lack of most project documentation like (As-Built) drawings represents another important challenge as this will make it hard for the FM entity to handle the different (architect, civil, electromechanical and infrastructure items), Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a very useful tool to update and integrate project information and documentation. Last but not the least is the lack of skilled and FM’s specialized manpower representing the big challenge for the FM service providers as they are investing in the human resources.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Illustrate different challenges facing Facility Management Industry in the Middle East
  2. Discuss how to overcome these challenges and enhance market opportunities for the right use of Facility Management
  3. Highlighting legal requirements (adapting new regulations and/or modifying existing ones) to improve Facility Management application
  4. Steps towards standardizing Facility Management business models
