Global Report – July 2024

From the reports of the FMCC Regional Directors across the globe.

Reporting for the SOUTH ASIA and INDIAN OCEAN regions, Director Stephen Ballesty has been reaching out to engage with IFMA members in India about joining the FMCC, now that the India Chapter of IFMA has closed down.  On the regions of AUSTRALASIA and SOUTHEAST ASIA, Stephen reports that an IFMA Chapter is proposed for Vietnam in recognition of the growth of the Facility Management profession that has developed in that country.  Stephen moderated a panel discussion at the IFMA World Workplace Asia (July 22-24 in Singapore); Stephen is also involved in the ISO 41001 series development that is creating standards for Facility Management.

Reporting for CHINA, Director Mario Qian is reaching out to IFMA members in that country following the closing down of the IFMA China Chapter.  The lack of an IFMA chapter in China provides an opportunity for members there to still belong to a network of professionals – the FMCC.

Reporting for the MIDDLE EAST region, Director Jawad Altimimi has noted new members of the FMCC in the area.  Jawad has also noted amongst other news and activities that Saudi Arabia is looking to implement new Facility Management Regulations in 2024.

Reporting for AFRICA, Director Mike Liddle advises that growth across the continent for the most part has remained low.  Mike has been promoting to professionals in the region to participate in the IFMA Global Africa Conference being held in Accra, Ghana on August 1-2 of this year.

Reporting for EUROPE, Director Dale Schuss points to recent elections in France and the UK and how it is impacting relations between the European Union and the UK.  The working relationship between UK and the EU is expected to become closer in the short term.

Our NORTH AMERICA region reports from two countries.  On Canada, current Board President states what is going on to increase housing construction.  On the US, Director David Reynolds reports that commercial/office vacancies remain an issue post-pandemic.  David and Kathleen both report on the risks Facility Mangers need to understand when it comes to climate and weather events.

Our GLOBAL Director Liaison Val Moraes reports form his New Zealand home that the growth of the economy remains flat there.  Val will be attending the World Workplace in San Antonio.  Our YOUNG PROFESSIONAL liaison Eric McLean has been active for the FMCC and has just recently hosted an IFMA Young Professionals event is South Florida, USA.

The FMCC is active all over the world.
