FMCC President’s BLOG – September/October 2022

Tuesday, September 6th, 2022

Beyond the debate of working from home vis a vis working at the office (or a little bit of both – referred to as ‘hybrid’), we see 4 day a week trials often on a 100-80-100 model. Employees earn 100% of their pay, work 80% of their previous hours, with 100% productivity despite the reduction in hours. As facility managers oversee various workplace environments, we know that these innovations cannot apply to all workers or facilities. Some operations are 24/7 by need, not by choice. Customer and client expectations as well may drive work hours that a facility must operate as productivity relates more to serving the public (availability) rather than simple output. It’s a lot to think about, but the old adage that ‘one size cannot fill all’ still has merit.

World Workplace 2022 took place in Nashville at the end of September. The FMCC arranged a social night on Thursday September 29, 2022.  Thanks for all of those who came out – it was great meeting you all at the event!

We held our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday September 21 and welcomed two new elected officers: Kathleen Lausman of British Columbia, Canada (Vice-President) and Stephanie Brounstein of Arizona, USA (Secretary).  Welcome to the board!  Daniel Goldsmith (Treasurer) and I were re-elected – we have a lot planned for the year ahead.  Also, we will be joined by the same Regional Directors who in total represent 6 continents!

Last, a personal note. I moved from Canada to the United Kingdom last month and I am now just settling in! This was a big move and I look forward to my future here. FMCC is a global group so it never really matters where in the world you happen to be!
