FMCC President’s BLOG – July/August 2021

Thursday, July 22nd, 2021

13 years ago, I made a major decision. After 18 years of working for others, I made the decision to go out and start my own business. I had no clients. I had an office set up in my basement at home.

I had a clear vision – to convince mid-sized businesses to outsource their facility management to me. Having worked in facility management for very large corporations, I realized the potential in serving the mid-sized market and implementing for them expert procedures and practices.

Today, my facility management clients have provided me a portfolio mostly of gas stations, convenience stores, and liquor stores. I love the work I do for my clients.

Going on your own is a key trait of our membership at the IFMA FM Consultant’s Council and supporting our members with resources to make the transition from employee to consultant or in house specialist remains one of our mandates.

If you have a story to share about your experience going on your own or would like to suggest how we can help those making the decision to become a consultant, please let me know.

On another note, now that registration is open for World Workplace 2021 in Kissimmee (Orlando), Florida, I hope you consider attending; I look forward to meeting as many of our members there as well.  Click here to register.
