Peter Ankerstjerne, Group Marketing Director, ISS World Services
Reinhard Poglitsch, Business Development Director, ISS Austria Holding Ltd

Overview:
To become a strategic and “seemless” partner for their client’s organizations, facility management (FM ) operators need to develop new tools and concepts to help their customers maximize the value added of their operations by better serving their needs. In order to better assist their clients, FM operators need to understand the strategic challenges that their client companies are facing with. Risk Mitigation is such a topic. Reinhard Poglitsch, Business Development Director of ISS Austria & President of IFMA Austria Chapter, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Alexander Redlein, Vienna University of Technology, Department of Information and Facility Management (IFM), will present the latest findings from their common White Paper “ Risk Management and Mitigation through Strategic Facility Management ”. This presentation is based upon extensive desk research, survey of facility management experts within ISS as well as from professionals in non outsourced FM positions. The significance of risk management and control activities has increased due to various legal initiatives in the United States and Europe, but also due to the current economic situation. In this context, a methodology is presented that provides measures to implement or optimise a company’s risk management system as well as its internal control system (ICS). In addition, a demonstration is made showing how outsourcing facility services “in an optimum way” can be implemented in order to both manage and ultimately minimise risk.

Learning Objectives:
1. Build awareness of White Paper findings from desk research and survey of facility management experts on Risk Mitigation via FM
2. Examine how legal initiatives are shaping the wish of companies to reduce risk
3. Create awareness of how companies could responding to these challenges by introducing new ways to mitigate risk in daily business of companies
4. Discuss ISS’s assessments of the consequences for the FM industry
