Change is a process, not an event:FMCC President’s message

Friday, March 14th, 2025

“Change is a process, not an event.” (Peter Senge)

Over two years ago, the FMCC Board began conversations about ‘change’. Much of this change was in response to a global pandemic that influenced where we worked and how we worked. But it was and continues to also be spurred by technology and its influence on the nature of work and the physical environment where work happens. These conversations then led to other observations like environmental changes, energy production and distribution, policy and economics impacting how we respond to and manage the built environment. The discussions broadened and we decided to share insights with the FM community through recording conversations and posting them on our YouTube channel.

Are we oracles? Not really, but we are a global group of experts that see the value in exploring and sharing observations as part of our critical thinking while inviting many perspectives to collaborate on this complex system called the built environment in the context of changes in today’s world.

It’s been said ‘the more things change – the more they stay the same’. Perhaps – perhaps not? You decide. Check-out our ‘Dancing with Change in FM’ series (inspired by the Peter Senge book – “The Dance of Change – The Challenges to Sustaining Momentum in Learning Organization”) We explore and discuss changes, impacts, preparation, response, resilience and many other insights. Weigh-in, leave a comment on YouTube and/or reach-out if you would like to participate in a ‘chat’ and share your expert insights.
